Sudden cardiac arrest is the leading cause of death in the United States and other countries. It can happen to anyone at any time. According to the American Heart Association (AHA) CPR statistics, there are approximately 300,000 victims of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest each year in the U.S. alone, and less than 8% of people who experience cardiac arrest outside the hospital survive.
